Incredibly prolific, Pearson has released over one hundred remixes and worked with the biggest artists in music; names such as Depeche Mode, the Chemical Brothers and Gwen Stefani are not to be shied away from. His talents are not confined to remixing but go further beyond to include producing (he was at the helm for the debut offerings of The Rapture, Delphic and Lost Valentinos), DJing, head of the Misericord record label and writing – his book Discographies: Dance, Music, Culture and the Politics of Sound was published in 1999. In what must be a first for an electronic dance music artist, Pearson was also a visiting lecturer in Cultural Studies at the University of East London.
Turning back to all matters music, Pearson relocated from the United Kingdom to Berlin many years ago and became a regular guest at Panorama Bar and a resident at Robert Johnson. In that time, his demand as both a producer and a DJ has grown remarkably. Additions to both the Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi and Fabric compilation series have been hallmarks of each, and it’s with little wonder that none other than Kompakt publishes his next release, creatively titled We Are Proud Of Our Choices. Pearson took the time, between gigs in St Petersburg and Sydney, to talk to Pulse. read more...

Ewan Pearson will release his third commercial mix CD on Kompakt early next year.

Arguably the finest thing to come from his hometown of Kidderminster, Pearson has certainly had an eventful career, with activities ranging from remixing and producing bands, through to authoring a book that looks into the politics of dance music culture. He's no stranger to the world of DJing either, with mixes for the renowned Fabric and Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi series acting as calling cards for his countless international appearances behind the decks. While Pearson may favour the standard DJing setup when playing out, his recent studio mixes have seen him harness the power of Ableton Live, working long blends and editing tracks on the fly.

Ewan has again used this methodology for his Kompakt mix, which goes under the name of We Are Proud Of Our Choices and sees him focus on the melodic tech-house sound that he's been cultivating throughout his DJing career. Neville Watson, Lusine, John Talabot, Hot Natured, Taron Trekka and Wah Chu Ku all feature on the mix, which strays away from the more popular club tracks of the year and instead focuses on the secret weapons that Pearson has been utilising in his sets of late.

5 GUM Vision Lab - Stimulate Your Senses

30.04.2008 New M83 Album out now!

Hello folks,

this time last year I spent a glorious sunny April in Rockfield Studios in Wales, producing (alongside Ken Thomas of Sigur Ros, Cocteau Twins and Public Image fame) the new album from M83, "Saturdays=Youth". It finally came out last week on Mute records; more vocal and song-based than their previous records and with a nod to glossy 80s pop, but still with the same grandeur and gorgeous melodics. Try to imagine Kevin Shields and Vangelis soundtracking a John Hughes movie and your part-way there.

You can listen to some of it here at www.myspace.com/m83.

Hope you like it.

love,
ewan
